Honolulu Airport, Oahu


Honolulu Airport is said to be haunted by “the Lady in Waiting.”  This ghostly figure is said to be wearing a white dress and has blonde hair. According to legend, she fell in love with a man who promised to marry her, but he took off on an international flight and never returned. She appears mostly on her own late at night but she can be seen walking through restricted areas. People at the airport have seen her standing at the gate at night, peering out at the runway.

Iolani Palace, Honolulu


The Iolani Palace was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii.  The palace is haunted by Queen Lili’uokalani who was imprisoned in an upstairs bedroom for almost 8 months and died there two years later.  People have heard the sound of a piano coming from the blue room. Incidents like Doors opening and closing on the Queen’s bedroom, smell of tobacco, lights appearing out of the blue in windows at night - have been reported.  Witnesses reported seeing a specter in a rich vintage black dress.

 

Iao Theatre, Maui


Located in Wailuku and opened in 1928, the Iao Theatre is one of the most haunted places across the eight main Hawaiian Islands. There have been various reports of lights flickering, and unexplained voices throughout the theater, though the most chilling story is that of a misty ghost sitting in seats throughout the theatre, as well as on stage when the theater is closed. Witnesses claim that she is friendly, though many affectionately refer to her as “Emma” – an unknown flapper/actress with a penchant for productions from 1920s America.

 

Nanakuli Sugar Mill Ruins, Oahu


Located in Nanakuli near Makaha there are ruins of an old sugar mill. For those who love exploring eerie ghost towns and abandoned buildings, the 130-year old Kualoa Sugar Mill ruins is the perfect place.  It is said that the Hawaiian goddess of snow, Poli’ahu, lives here. And it has been rumored that she was seen walking through these ruins on one particularly stormy night in 1977.

 

Kaimuki House, Honolulu


Kaimuki House is the most haunted house in the entire state. People call it Hawaii's Amityville Horror. The ghost that is said to haunt the house is called a “Kasha”, a man-eating demon from Japanese folklore with an insatiable hunger for blood and corpses.  In the summer of 1942, the house was occupied by a single mother and her three children. One night, the police were called to her house. When they entered the house, the police officers saw three children were being thrown around the room by an invisible force. The officers watched for over an hour, unable to do anything, as the children were beaten and strangled by the unseen entity. There are many such ghostly incidents happened and happening at this place and the cause of the haunting was a series of terrible murders happened here.

 

Hawaii Plantation Village, Oahu


The Hawaiian plantation village is located in Waimanalo on the island of Oahu. It features restored buildings, replicas of various plantation structures, and a few ghosts as well. Of the village’s 25 plantation houses, approximately half of them are haunted. Every fall, the museum is transformed into a haunted house. Due to the supernatural activity, the employees and caretakers aren’t allowed to work alone for safety reasons.

 

Volcano House Hotel, Big Island


An old lady is said to haunt the Volcano House Hotel, which was once a private residence. She has also been seen in guest rooms, and wandering the halls. The family who lived in this house would often report seeing her apparition during their time there and now many of those staying at the hotel have seen it too. Sightings of a ghostly white dog have also been reported on the entrance road to the hotel.

Kawaiaha’o Church and Graveyard, Oahu
This Hawaiian church was constructed between 1836 and 1842.The graveyard is said to be haunted by Night Marchers. It’s said that visitors have seen ghostly figures walking through its halls at night. Night marchers are a term indigenous Hawaiians use for restless spirits or ancestors.  It’s believed these Hawaiian Chiefs of the past march at night along various parts of the island chain.

 

Aloha Tower, Oahu


The Aloha Tower is one of the most haunted places in Hawaii because there are ghosts of WWII sailors who live here. There are many ghost stories of sailors who died aboard ships anchored here during World War II to spirits protecting Hawaiian culture. The most well-known ghost there is that of a Pearl Harbor victim. It is said that he stands in the tower looking into the ocean for the people who killed him.

 

Hulihee Palace, Kailua-Kona


Built from lava rock and coral in 1838, the palace was once a vacation retreat for Hawaiian kings. The Palace is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young Hawaiian boy. Some people say that ghosts of ancient Hawaiian Royalty still guard this house.
