St. Elmo Ghost Town, Chaffee County
In 1880, St. Elmo flourished with a population of 2,000 residents due to its silver and gold mining operations. The most famous ghost of St. Elmo is Annabelle “Dirty Annie” Stark. Anna Stark was known as a cruel and harsh woman who never allowed her three children, Roy, Tony and Annabelle out into town. Annabelle grew up attractive and passionate for the town and her love of St. Elmo was fierce. The town used to call her “Dirty Annie” as she would often come out in filthy clothing and her hair in a tangled mess. Since her death, it is said she still can be found roaming the streets.
Cripple Creek
Cripple Creek is full of haunted places including Buffalo Billy’s Casino, Hotel St. Nicholas, Mamie R. Mine, Mt. Pisgah Cemetery and Colorado Grande Casino and Hotel. Built in 1896, Colorado Grande, now houses the spirits of its former gamblers and guests. Maggie, the most famous of its apparitions, smells of roses and is seen playing slots with an unnamed male partner.
Gold Camp Road, Colorado Springs
According to legend, one of the tunnels at Gold Camp Road collapsed on a school bus full of orphans, killing them and the driver. Visitors reported hearing the children's screams or laughter, seeing dark figures lurking and finding small, dusty handprints on their cars.
Cheesman Park, Denver
Cheesman Park is a pleasant recreational area in the heart of Denver for picnicking, jogging, walking and playing. Park is built on Mount Prospect Cemetery which was founded in 1858. In 2010, workers discovered four skeletons from the abandoned cemetery. Visitors report about strange apparitions and roaming unsettled spirits in the park even today.
Riverdale Road ,Thornton
Known as the most haunted road in America, Riverdale Road is said to be haunted by the spirit of a crazy man who killed his family and burned down their home. It is also said that the road was built on Native American burial grounds, and thus it’s been the site of many tragic accidents. Reports of headless animals left behind, strange voices chanting, figures appearing then disappearing from sight, and bloody handprints spattered on signs have all been reported in this area.
Hotel Colorado, Glenwood, Springs
Hotel Colorado was once a hospital during the time of World War II, which hosted as many as 500 injured military personnel in its chambers. . There were even gigantic ovens located deep within its basement, supposedly once used as crematoriums for the dead. Many guests and staff have reported seeing apparitions and spirits floating through its vast hallways or circling the lawn at night.
Georgetown
Georgetown is a National Historic Landmark District with 240 protected buildings .Town is well-known to be haunted by the many spirits thought to be mostly from the 1800s. These spirits seem to be forever trapped on the streets of Georgetown. They don’t appear to be malevolent, and only appear for a moment or two before disappearing into thin air.
Ashcroft
Ashcroft, once known for its gold and silver boom, drew in thousands of people in the 1880s.Guests, who have stayed at the View Hotel in town, claimed it to be extremely haunted. It is believed that long-dead spirits who died in mining accidents are still haunting the town. Visitors reported that streets become the hangout area for lost spirits at night.
Museum of Colorado Prisons, Canon City
This building was originally a women's prison constructed in 1935. People have reported orb sightings, distant voices, and other mysterious signs from beyond, including the lingering smell of tobacco. Visitors reported seeing the ghosts of prison’s notorious past inmates including a convicted cannibal and a 12-year-old jailed for murder.
